DIY Foam Letter Wedding Decorations

How to decorate Styrofoam wedding letters

Here is a cute wedding decoration that you can make all by yourself!

There is something satisfying about creating things with your own hands, maybe that’s one of the reasons that so many brides have taken to the DIY scene so much. Of course, it could just be that do-it-yourself decorations are a great way to save money. Either way, brides are doing more things themselves for their big day. This includes the wedding decorations.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you’re expected to decorate the whole reception area by yourself, but there are things that you can do yourself to add a personal touch to your wedding reception. Something simple, like these foam letter decorations, can be made at home and used to decorate your gift table or it can be placed on the table with your guest book. You can also make multiple sets of this wedding decoration and use it in multiple places. You can also use this do-it-yourself decoration as a photo prop with the help of your photographer. Here is a quick tutorial to show you how easily you can create a cute wedding decoration for your special day.

For this particular tutorial, foam letters that spell out “I do” are used but you can choose to use you and your partner’s initials or spell out your first names. Craft paint, a sponge brush, hot glue, and artificial rose petals are also needed for this project. Once you gather your materials and properly prepare your workspace (nothing special, just put down some newspaper or something similar to protect the work surface) you’re ready to start creating your foam letter decorations.

First, you’ll paint your foam letters using your acrylic craft paint and the sponge brush.

Since you’ll be decorating the front of your letters with the rose petals, you only have to paint the sides and the back of the letters. Remember to paint any interior edges of the letters (like the inside of the “d” and “o”), too. This is a simple step that only requires one coat of the craft paint, but if you want a richer color you can use more than one coat. Once the letters are painted, leave them to dry.

When the paint is dry you’ll move on to the artificial rose petals.

These will serve as the main element of the wedding decoration and cover the front of the foam letters. Here, you’ll put small amounts of hot glue on the back of each artificial rose petal and adhere them to the front of the foam letters. Once that is done, you can attach your foam letters to a foam base either with glue or small stakes.

Artificial rose petals can be found at your local craft store and are inexpensive. You’ll be able to find them in different colors, so you’ll be able to match your flowers or your wedding colors if you please. The paint you use can match your wedding colors as well.
